Let’s face it, sometimes working out sucks. You’re tired, you’re busy, you’re behind on Riverdale…any excuse to avoid breaking a sweat. We all know exercise is good for our physical health, but it’s also super important for our mental health as well, so next time you find yourself trying to ditch a gym sesh, try these five tips to get moving.

1. Workout With A Friend

There’s nothing like a bit of good old peer pressure to keep you motivated! Having a friend to work out with keeps you both accountable and makes the whole experience of exercising way more fun. Whether you take a class together, set up a circuit in the backyard, or go for a long walk, doing it in a pair means you get a chance to catch up with each other, and stay healthy and active at the same time. It’s a win-win!

2. Pump Up The Jam

Make yourself a killer work out playlist that you won’t be able to resist moving to! Mix some Ariana, Dua, Post Malone and Shawn with some old school Biebs and 1D and you’ve got yourself a bunch of amazing tracks to help you push through the last pushup, kilometre or squat.

3. Style It Out

When you look good, you feel good, and nothing looks or feels as good as new activewear and fresh kicks. If its been a while since you’ve bought yourself some decent work out gear, add it to your Christmas wish list or check out the amazing deals you can get online – lots of websites offer a discount for students all year round, so you can save your $$$ and still look swish.

4. Change Your Mindset

If it has been a while since you last hit the gym or went for a run, you’re probably dreading the red-faced sweatiness that awaits you and the judgmental stares of the freakishly fit. We get it – we’ve all been there! Two important things to keep in mind. The first is that no one is paying any attention to what you’re doing – they’re all too focused on themselves! And the second is that everyone has to start somewhere – it’s totally worth the thirty minutes of looking less than your best for the amazing health benefits and sense of achievement you’ll feel when it’s done.

5. You Do You

Just because your sister loves pilates and your best friend loves boxing doesn’t mean you have to! The best way to stay motivated when it comes to exercise is to choose a work out you love. Research what’s offered at your local gym, go for a swim, sign up for a dance class, check out local running clubs…whatever you choose remember that exercise is all about trial and error – give it a go and if you hate it you can try something new! The important thing is you’re doing something!

So there you have it – five super simple tips to make working out a little less painful! And if you’re already a certified gym junkie, they’re sure to motivate you to push yourself even further! Give them a try – what have you got to lose?

So these are my thoughts on how to keep yourself motivated when the couch starts calling your name … but what’s your opinion?
