LEARNHSC Trials Prep: What You Should Be Doing Now!

katem

If you’re in Year 12, chances are you are being constantly reminded about HSC trials. They are just around the corner! Even though these exams are meant to be a ‘practice’ for the real deal in October, they can still make a huge difference to your overall result. No idea how to start preparing? Here are some ways tried and tested ways to ace your trials!

Use The Syllabus

There’s no point making pretty, highlighted notes if you haven’t got the right information in the first place. Each subject has a syllabus and it contains all the clues you need to prepare as well as you can for your HSC trials. You should use the dot points in the syllabus as sub-headings for your notes and organise information underneath each one. Every exam question is based on the syllabus so if you’ve made notes on every point, nothing should come as a surprise!

Practice Your Exam Technique

Reading your notes or making flashcards is great, but many people forget that they won’t be doing either of these in the actual exam. Practice papers are an absolute must if you want to succeed in your HSC trials. Not only will you become more familiar with the type of questions you could be asked, but you’ll also be able to practice your time management. It’s also a chance to identify any content areas you’re unsure of.

Go It Alone

Meeting your friends at the library for a study sesh might seem like a good idea, but it could also be a recipe for disaster. Who really wants to be revising content when they could chat with their friends instead? It’s always better to spend the majority of your study time free of distractions, so you can be as productive as possible. Just remember to schedule in a couple of catch-ups with your friends so you don’t go completely insane!

Believe In Yourself

It might sound cheesy, but believing in yourself is half the battle when it comes to the HSC trials. Even though they are important, exam results aren’t everything. If things don’t go to plan, you always have the HSC exams to improve your overall mark (they’re worth 50%!). Putting too much pressure on yourself at this stage can do more harm than good. Keep things in perspective, stick to your study goals and do your best. Things always work out in the end.
