MOVESydney's 5 Best Coastal Walking Tracks That Are Totally Free

Looking for something a little different to do this weekend? Well here is your answer!

Need to get out and exercise, but don’t have a gym membership? Here’s 5 totally free walks in Sydney that are great to do with a few friends. So grab your water, a big hat, close toed shoes and sunscreen and get out there!

Spit To Manly

AKA the Manly Scenic Walkway, this walk is one of the most beautiful in Sydney. It’s 10kms or 3.5 hours, so you may not choose to do the whole thing – which is one of the good parts about this walk, you can turn around at any time, or exit at several points.

Bondi To Coogee

This gorgeous walk is 6 kms, or 2.5-3hrs – so you can choose to just do Bondi to Bronte if you’re after a shorter walk – 2.5kms at about 1hr.

Figure 8 Pools

This one is for more advanced walkers. The Figure Eight Pools are on a rock ledge south of Burning Palms Beach in Royal National Park, Sydney. The shortest walk there is a steep 3.5km track that goes down more than 100m of elevation to the ocean. There are new boardwalks there built by National Parks to make some sections easier, but this walk will still take over an hour. The walk includes rock hopping and some slippery rock ledges, so it’s not one for everybody. But at the end, the Figure 8 Pools which I’m sure most of us have seen on the web are incredible. And the most rewarding feeling at the end of that walk is plunging into the water. Just make sure to pack a light towel (microfibre or Turkish), you wouldn’t want to carry a heavy one and you also wouldn’t want to walk back wet.

Royal Coast Track

This one is massive. 30km, which can take 2 days at a comfortable pace. However, there are multiple vehicle access points so you wouldn’t have to do the whole thing. And the views you’d see on the way would make it well worth it. These include Wedding Cake Rock and Eagle Rock, along with lagoons and gorgeous views. The author of this article on Sydney Coast Walks even called it “Sydney’s best walk.”

Bradley’s Head Walk

This gorgeous walk is 8.2 km from Taronga Zoo Wharf, so about 2.5 hrs there and back, but it is recommended that you leave extra time to enjoy Chowder Bay. It’s an easy walk that takes you through a forest, and along the coast to enjoy several beautiful views.
