GO6 Temples That You Have To Visit Before You Die
These 6 temples are so amazing, you can't miss out on seeing them! Life is too short!
These six temples are massive in size, endless in beauty and mind-blowing in every way.
They can also remind us of what human beings are capable of in times of peace. I think that it is important in every way for you to experience these wonders!
1. Angkor Wat, Siem Reap, Cambodia
Angkor Wat is not actually a single temple, but a complex of roughly 72 different temples. Built originally for the King Suryavarman II in the early 12th Century, dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu and later on to Buddhist beliefs. What makes this temple so amazing is its size and intricate architecture. Personally, I love the mix of two different religions; it shows how two separate beliefs can exist peacefully.
2. Gawdawpalin Temple, Bagan, Myanmar, Burma
Built during the 13th and 12th centuries, this temple is still used to this day for Buddhist rituals and meditation. Not only is this temple breathtakingly beautiful, but it is also an amazing example of how ancient beliefs can still live on into the modern day.
3. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Abu Dhabi, UAE
This temple is one of the most modern on our list, built between 1997 and 2007. It acts as a place of daily pilgrimage for over 41, 000 people every day during sacred holidays. This temple is one of the grandest temples of its kind, and the largest mosque in the country. The temple’s exceptional beauty is supposed to unite religion, historical and modern values with architecture and art, and also the entire world, as it is constructed out of materials from across the globe.
4. Shwedagon Pagoda, Yangon, Myanmar, Burma
The golden pagoda honors Buddha, rising almost 100m into the sky-kingdom. The Shwedagon Pagoda is the most sacred Buddhist pagoda in Myanmar, as it is believed to hold the relics of the four previous Buddhas; a sacred staff, a sacred water filler, a sacred piece of rope and eight strands of hair. While these items may hold no meaning us, it is probably worth seeing a temple that literally glows in the twilight.
5. Wat Rong Khun, Chiang Rai, Thailand
With a beautiful history of preservation and reconstruction, the ‘White Temple’ itself has experienced a journey of growth and rebirth. In the early 90s, the temple was in a state of disrepair, but when a local artist dedicated his life to saving its beauty, the temple was reconstructed. Today, the temple is used as a Buddhist learning center and meditation spot still to this day.
6. St Basil’s Cathedral, Moscow, Russia
Built between 1555 and 1561 on the orders from Ivan the Terrible to commemorate the capture of Kazan and Astrakhan. The unique design of the building was meant to mirror the flame of a bonfire rising into the sky. Today, it is used mostly as a national symbol and a memorial for Russias history. Although born from a place of war, the temple is now used to promote peace.
